Liam looks for better Potters terms

Liam Lawrence believes he is deserving of a better contract and has approached Stoke about negotiating a possible new deal.

The midfielder played a major part in helping ensure the Potters beat the drop in their first ever season in the Premier League last term.

Despite injury restricting him to just 20 league appearances the 27-year-old managed to start the final 13 games of the campaign and he now hopes to be rewarded for his efforts.

Lawrence put his terms to the club this week, where it is thought he asked for a pay rise and a four-year deal, and he is expecting the club to mail him a formal offer in the next few days.

"I have read stuff about me wanting to be on £30,000 a week," he told The Sentinel.

"That's not true. I can't expect to go from less than £10,000 and ask for a 200 per cent increase.

"I am not greedy and this is not just about the money. It is about staying at Stoke for the long-term."

Lawrence is optimistic that the new contract can be tied up quickly, leaving him to focus on his football ahead of a gruelling pre-season.

"Stoke are writing to me with an official offer, so I'm waiting to find out what the terms are," he added.

"I'm hoping we can come to some sort of an agreement because I would like to get it all sorted before we report back.

"I have been here since the start of the journey when things were taking off. Now I want to stay at Stoke and spend my best years here."
